This project was a live brief in collaboration with the iconic British lamp company, Anglepoise. Founded in 1935 by George Carwardine, Anglepoise has been creating and developing lamps with the focus on functionality, sustainability and minimalism. In this brief we were challenged to 'Look Beyond' and create a lamp(s), taking their iconic shade shape and designing a shade that reflects a combination of their values and history, as well as our own personal values and specialties as an artist. For my response, I focused on how to integrate parts of the lamp within my glass work, and through experimentation and research produced lamps that focused on recycling the otherwise unusable copper wire from the scrap cables into my work. I used electroplating (using the recycled copper wire to coat patterns on my glass shade in a layer of copper) and also creating patterns out of the wires and fusing them between layers of glass, similarly to my 'The Body Holds' project. The outcome of this was two lamps that focused on giving new life to the otherwise unusable, and exposing the inner workings of Anglepoise lamps through the use of glass.
